I started building a stand for the planer (Bosch PHO 1) but didn’t film as I wasn’t sure what I was about to do would work. Before I knew it, I had completed half the work and will now have to retrospectively explain how you would make one too.
I made three legs which bolt onto the body of the planer. These were cut from 2mm sheet metal. I will provide a rough printable template on my website with the dimensions and angles.
I am currently putting the fence onto the planer, but there seems to be a bit of wobble. I am going to make another bracket and attach it to the underside of the fence.
I used an adjustable vice jaw bender to form the metal into the shapes I wanted. I am also adding neoprene rubber between all the fixings and the planer that will help reduce vibration and noise.
I planed a small amount off the fence to allow the full movement of the parallel lifting mechanism. I will also use an NVR switch whenever operating the planer to give me the option of an emergency stop.
The self swinging guard worked in principle but I didn’t like how bulky it was and thus decided to use a simpler design.
Many thanks for this great idea which I have now completed, it works like a dream.
