In this video I experiment with creating translucent images, using a few methods. In the end I decided to use Tung oil on photocopy images – a little like how paper umbrellas are made in China. I then painted the frame with a white primer, black undercoat and aluminium paint as a top coat which I then sanded back to give it a distressed look. I’m not sure if this is a good look or similar to the actual prop in the movie. I then installed the images and Perspex. In the movie the lampshade is a desk light with quite a bulbous stand, but I decided to hang mine so I made a mount out of 3mm hardboard which I could screw the bulb fitting too.

Excellent. I have looked high and low to buy one of these. Looks like it will need to a commissioned piece. If you could make the wood with the plastic bits I will get the base. I am looking to Mount it on a lamp base for my desk. Could we talk regarding this?
