Looking happily at a plant pot, in my overalls. Over ten years ago I drew faces on either knee on my overalls, which I would wear when doing art-tech work. Using my knees to express very simple messages without having to send a text. I then spent the next decade thinking about getting it embroidered. I once tried to do it by hand, and quicky gave up, as I neither had the skill or patience. But recently my lovely colleague Noor helped me get it CNC embroidered, and my other lovely colleague @saffiepluck helped me overlock the leg stitch back together. Feel quite lucky to know such talented and generous people. It also occured to me that this was the first time I've "made" something that I couldn't actually make myself. This must be what professional artist feel like! :) #Overalls #WorkWear #Knees #Happy #Sad #:(: #PlantPot #Faces #Smiles #Frowns #GoldThread #Coverall #Boilersuit #ArtTech #Emoji I had some requests about some 3d printed specimen stands I designed and CAD modelled. These were used during photogrammetry scanning different types of nuts in 2021, to make a nuts chess set and a peanut candle. The stand has a space at the top where a sewing pin can be super-glued. Objects can then be placed onto the tip of the pin. I also made a hexagonal dice that can help some software better process images into 3D files. The stand also has a 90 degree corner marking the centre of the base. This can be used to align the stand centrally on a turn table and help avoid the object tracking out of shot. The downloadable files (and original instructional video) are on Youtube/Thingiverse via the linktree URL in the bio if you are interested in the process. #photogrammetry #photogrammetry3dscanning #3dscanning #3dprinting #3dmodel #photogrammetry #peanut #sewingpin #pointcloud # newmedia #photography #metashape #spacial #sculpture #texture # surface The next video in the Playing Card Walking Stick series is up on YouTube. In it I set up a die cutting press, prepare and talk about the cutting and creasing former, and make a card holding jig to being folding and punching the card. A walking stick made using playing cards. One similar was purportedly made by my great grandfather who was a blacksmith in the village of Komi Kebir, in what is now Northern Cyprus. But the original artefact was lost, and stories about it only came to my attention through the accounts of relatives and in particular my late grandmother, Ekaterina. In a new series of video I introduce the characters that make up part of a family mythology, and begin the process re-making the playing cards walking stick. The link to part 1 will be in the bio and stories. #playingcards #artefact #walkingstick #playing #cards #walking #stick #komi #kebir #cyprus , #papier #mâché #papermache Around February this year I started teaching myself about a process called die-cutting. This is a process for shearing or creasing shapes or patterns into soft materials like fabric, leather, paper, card. When repeatable shapes is the goal it's a lot faster, and less smelly than laser cutting. A former is designed, and made with a laser cutter, but could be done with a fretsaw. Blades and creasing steels are placed into the former with any sharp blades hidden within pieces of rubber to protect their edge, and prevent the user accidently cutting themselves. The resulting object, which is pretty unusual can be used in a manually operated flat-press thousands of times before needing maintenance. I am going to use this process to make a walking stick from playing cards, which I last did in 2010 but in a more laborious way. #SummerArtist #DiamondGeezer #Cards #Punch #Folding #Paper #DieCutting #Dinking #Clicker #Press #Flatbed #PlayingCards #Diamonds #Ace #Clubs #Heart #Deck #Making #Workshop #Former #KissCutting Made some souvenirs from the ground floor workshop in the style of the Berlin Wall ones (go look on eBay for examples). The objects stuck on the acrylic stands are random bits of material, previous works, projects, offcuts, failed attempts, discarded bits, remnants. Only made 20 for 2023 but could have made 200. Been giving them to students as a momento of their experience in higher education. #BerlinWall #ArtSchool #Mauer #Souvenir #TheSchool #TheWall #Original #Artefact #Genuine #Momento #Bricabrac #Mauerstein #Concrete #HighRisk Site-specific... #SiteSpecific #Art #Installationism #Anarchitecture #BuildingSite #Shuttering #Environment #Construction #Urban #Built #Buildingdingsding #Rubble #Hardcore A stepladder that was confiscated for being too dangerous. Rope used to stop the legs from splaying, missing spreader, snapped brace gaffa-taped together, lost rubber feet, covered in some sticky residue, and now a culturally significant object. Will be used for installation demonstrations and available for exhibitions. #CareerLadder #Stepladder #Acrylic #Career #Ladder #Success #LadderUp #StepInTheRightDirection #Workshop #Sculpture #Art Portraits of some messy workbenches. #NoTidy #Mess #MakingIsMessy #OnFire #DegreeShow #CompareStuff #PickUpWhereYouLeft #ArtSchool #Stuff #Tools #End
