Plane Iron Axe / Mini Bamboo Splitting Knife / Hatchet

I wanted to make kites from bamboo, and whilst researching decided to build a stubby axe which could be secured in an engineer’s vice, and used to push bamboo towards the cutting edge safely.  Basing the shape around the plane iron itself, produced a small and comfortable to hold object.  As the plane iron has already been tempered, I wanted to avoid overheat the metal while working with it, thus cutting and grinding took longer.  It was very difficult to cut and sharpen due to its hardness, but should maintain a good edge and looks great.

On scalping I found this interesting to read:  http://www.hawthorneinsalem.org/ScholarsForum/MMD2263.html
