The Moot Three is very close to completion. I went with birch ply in the end after having to recut a few plates to solve some problems I couldn't pick up on in the CAD model. I'm pretty happy with it's look and accuracy, especially considering I cut all the plates and even milled the mounting holes for the aluminium profile on the Moot One. Apart from a single stepper motor on the X axis, and the sub-wasteboard which are missing, there's not much more assembly to do. I now need to double check my parts tally, and finish editing the video. Oh and tidy up... WARNING! CNC waffle about to start... Had to recut a few plates out today after I realised there was a difference between my homeall.g and homey.g macros. I had accidentally swapped the standoff distance between the two drives which move either side of the Y axis. Essentially this meant some plates were cut with a skew after the machine was homed. What a silly mistake - but thankfully it was over 30 degrees in the studio today to keep me thinking fluidly. Anyway this is the new Z axis plate assembly. Cut the carriage and z axis plate for the Moot Three today. I love how the last wafer of birch gets pushed out of the milling holes - looks like confetti or hole punch holes. Lol. I used a 4mm single flute tool for the job and was also able to run my Moot One CNC with the same v-carve feeds and speeds as the pro AXYZ machine at work, so this was very quick to do. A quick start to building the Moot_Three, mostly because I could bash out the plates so easily on the Moot_One - but now I'm waiting for a couple smaller parts to turn up in the post before moving forward. It really doesn't matter how meticulously you plan something, collect parts, and design it - in this case using CAD, the act of making will always reveal hidden lessons, feed backwards into the design and open your eyes to future problems.
